Disclaimer

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Save SF Bike is a volunteer group with strong opinions about how a member-supported bicycle advocacy organization should be run. This Disclaimer explains what our site is and is not, so you can read our content with the right expectations. It should be read together with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Independence from the SFBC

Save SF Bike is an independent group of current and former members of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC) and other community members. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the SFBC, and we do not speak on its behalf.

The views expressed on this site are those of the individual members and volunteers who wrote them. They do not represent the official positions of the SFBC, its Board of Directors, or its staff. Where we describe SFBC decisions, policies, or bylaws, we are giving our own account and interpretation, and the SFBC may see things differently. For the SFBC's official positions, membership services, and current bylaws, please go to the SFBC directly at sfbike.org.

Our criticism of particular governance decisions is offered in good faith, with the goal of strengthening an organization many of us have supported for years. We share the SFBC's broader mission of safer, more welcoming streets for people on bikes.

Informational content only

Articles, guides, newsletters, and other content on this site are provided for general information, education, and public discussion. They reflect our understanding at the time of writing and are not a substitute for your own research. Program descriptions, including safety tips for Learn-to-Ride, Listening Rides, Repair Clinics, and the Street Safety Audit Kit, are practical suggestions from volunteers, not professional instruction, engineering advice, or a guarantee of safety. Always follow traffic laws, use your own judgment, and see our Terms of Use for the risks involved in cycling activities.

We write often about SFBC bylaws, board elections, member voting rights, ranked-choice voting, and California nonprofit corporation law. This content is not legal advice. Nonprofit law is detailed, bylaws change, and the right answer to a legal question depends on specific facts. Reading our site or emailing us does not create an attorney-client relationship.

If you have a question about your rights as an SFBC member, how an election must be conducted, or whether a proposed bylaw change requires member approval, please read the SFBC's current bylaws and consult a qualified California attorney. Our Board Candidate Coaching program is peer-to-peer support and does not replace legal or professional advice.

Accuracy and historical content

We work hard to be accurate, to cite sources where we can, and to avoid overstating facts. Still, we are volunteers, and mistakes happen. Information about elections, board membership, city projects, and transit rules can change quickly, and we cannot promise every page is up to date.

Some content is kept deliberately for the historical record. In particular, our archive includes newsletters and posts from 2016 and 2017, written during and after the 2015 controversy over members' right to elect the SFBC board. These archived items are preserved as they were originally published, so people can understand how events unfolded. They may describe circumstances, people in particular roles, or plans that have since changed, and they should not be read as a description of the SFBC today. Archived pages are marked with their original publication date where possible.

We link to other websites, such as the SFBC, SFMTA, Vision Zero SF, transit agencies, the California Legislature, news outlets, and social networks, for reference and convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse the site or everything on it. Links can break or change over time; if you find one that no longer works, please let us know.

Photos and images on this site are credited to their respective owners or licensors and used with permission or under the applicable license. Copyright stays with those owners, and an image's appearance here does not mean the photographer or anyone pictured endorses Save SF Bike. If you are the owner of an image and believe it is credited incorrectly or used without permission, or if you appear in a photo and would like it removed, please contact us and we will address it promptly.

Endorsements and supporters

Names on our public supporter list belong to people who endorsed Save SF Bike and chose to be listed. Each listing reflects that person's own decision; it does not mean they agree with every word on the site, and it is not a statement by any employer or organization they belong to. Membership status is self-reported and not verified against SFBC records. Save SF Bike does not endorse candidates in SFBC board elections unless we say so explicitly, and mentions of individuals on our site are not endorsements. Anyone can ask to have their name removed, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

Corrections and contact

If you believe something on our site is inaccurate, out of date, unfair, or credited incorrectly, we want to hear from you. Email [email protected] with the page address, the specific statement, and, if you can, a source supporting the correction. You can also use our contact page. We review every correction request, update current content when we get something wrong, and add a note to archived material rather than silently rewriting history.
